The international ENERGY STARĀ® symbol is a simple way for consumers to identify products that are among the most energy-efficient on the market. Only manufacturers and retailers whose products meet the ENERGY STAR criteria can label their products with this symbol.
Now, new homes can be qualified as ENERGY STAR. In order to qualify for ENERGY STAR, all elements of energy used in a home are required to be ENERGY STAR labelled, from household appliances like dishwashers and clothes washers to heating and cooling systems, insulation, windows and doors to smaller items such as light bulbs.
During the construction of a new home, CanSpec Inspection Services will visit the home and perform a “pre-drywall pressure test” to determine the air tightness of the home, taking note of the insulation, heating and cooling system and windows and doors. Upon completion of the home, before owner occupation, CanSpec Inspection Services will return to perform the final pressure test, further examining all energy components of the home.
Did you know?
ENERGY STAR rated furnaces use about 35 percent less energy than older models.
It is estimated that products displaying the ENERGY STAR symbol can help reduce energy and operating costs by 30 to 50 percent and should reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two to three tonnes.
A homeowner will save 30% in energy consumption the day they move in to an ENERGY STAR home. The savings can generally be anywhere between $3500 to $4000.
